Fun Monday - Quirks

Lisa Marie over at Lisa's Chaos is our host this week. She has asked us to divulge a little personal information with all of you this week. Her exact assignment is this:
A quirk is defined as a peculiarity of action, behavior, or personality; mannerism. We are all unique individuals, having quirks that help make us who we are. I would like to know what your quirks are. Confess to one, confess to ten, you decide. Just come back Monday ready to spill the beans, the rest of the world may look at you like you are from Mars, but you‘re among friends here. We won’t laugh, in fact that eccentricity just may endear you to us more.

I thought about this for awhile and came up with a few of my quirky behaviors.

1. I eat pancakes with butter and sugar - no syrup. (And it's not powdered sugar, either. It's the white granulated stuff.) I picked this habit up in college from one of my friends. I almost don't like them with syrup now. Now my kids will often eat pancakes this way; I think it drives my husband nuts.

2. I like to dip my french fries in ranch dressing. This habit started when I first began teaching. Several of the teachers would go out on Friday nights to a local bar/ restaurant and we always ordered fries to share, with an order of ranch dressing. Really delicious.

3. I sleep with a stuffed animal every night. It used to be my stuffed dog Henry that I received as an infant, but when he became in danger of disintegrating my husband bought me a Goofy toy that takes Henry's place now.

4. I weigh myself every day and write down the time and weight in a little notebook I keep in my bathroom drawer. (OK, this might be bordering on OCD, but it has helped me to lose weight and maintain my weight loss.)

5. I like almost all of my sandwiches plain. Hot dogs in a bun - no condiments. Hamburgers in a bun - again no condiments. Turkey sandwich - maybe some butter on the bread and some cheese - nothing else. Except for barbecue sauce and picante sauce, I dislike almost all condiments and would prefer my sandwiches without veggies, dressings or sauces.

6. I am a corn on the cob snob. We have to eat corn on the cob the day we buy it, or one day later at most. I never buy it from a grocery store, only from farmstands freshly picked daily. It stems from working at a a farm stand for two summers in high school and college and not trusting how long an ear of corn has travelled to get in the grocery stores. Try a fresh ear of corn, you'll taste the difference.

That's just a few of my quirks. Now go read about everyone else's strange eccentricities.

There is a teacher where I teach who dips her french fries in Ranch dressing. She puts it on her baked potatoes, too. I know exactly what you mean about corn on the cob. What we buy NEVER tastes as good as fresh corn from the garden. I have a friend who eats her pancakes with butter and jelly.

I aspire to be a corn-on-the cob snob, but haven't quite achieved that status yet. You'd think living North of Nowhere in the boondocks and cornfields would present an opportunity to develop that skill, but it hasn't.

Corn begins to lose it sugar and nutrution value content after three days so that corn on the cob is a good thing, but you can flash freeze it to keep it sweet and fresh for the winter months. I do peanut butter on my pancakes so sugar sounds good.

Corn on the cob!! Lots of butter for me. Now you got me hungry.

And I too like pancakes with butter and sugar.

When's breakfast? Okay then, Lunch? What the heck...when do we eat.

My FM is posted...come on over!!

This is probably a stupid question, but have you tried real maple syrup? Grade A fancy? I completely understand if you're talking about that fake brown yuck they sell in the grocery stores.

Michigan Sweet corn will be in soon! I am so excited. That stuff is almost better than chocolate.

Except for the sugar on the pancakes, it all makes sense. Sugar on pacakes, you must like cinnamon toast.

Hee hee. When it comes to corn on the cob, I'm like a wino. While I'll certainly eat the good stuff, I'll take any corn I can get my hands on. OH, and I eat ranch dressing on the part of the pizza crust with no sauce or cheese. Fries? I'm intrigued.

You are so right about the corn!

Wow, I'd never thought of most of these. I do agree with the corn on the cob, so much better.

When I was in junior hirgh, some of us would eat at a drugstore counter. My friend would put mustard on his fries to keep others from stealing his fries. I eat my pancakes just opposite of you; I like mine with syrup but no butter.

Funny how you dip your fries, but refuse condiments on your meat! And I'm guilty - I have a teddy bear that I sleep with. And I get funny looks on business trips, hauling around my bear!

I weigh myself everyday but don't go keep track of it on paper. Fresh corn is best and I agree with you on when you eat it.

Most of the restaurants around here serve cheese fries with Ranch. I think that's normal. The pancakes tho??

I agree with you 100% about the daily weighings and recordings. That, coupled with keeping a food journal, has helped me lose about 10 lbs. this past month. My chart is taped on the bathroom mirror. For heavens sake, of course it's taken down when company comes!

The only things I was really amazed by was the sugar on pancakes, never tried it though.

Thanx for sharing your quirks. :)

Re: corn. We used to pick our own just so we knew how fresh it was. Sour smelling corn is just nasty!

Ya know, everyone in Oklahoma dips their french fries in Ranch. They don't even know what ketchup is used for.

Ah, fresh corn on the cob--nothing better!

I try to stay away from french fries -- but I like to mix ranch and catsup. yum.

I eat my "dogs" without buns and put the condiments on the side. I'm a mustard and fries gal too.

Not to sure about the sugar on the pancakes tho.....

Thanks for sharing.

I love your quirks. I even share some of them. And the corn-on-the-cob thing? That's not a quirk, that's just good sense. =)

Thanks for stopping by to comment on my quirks.

You are so right about the corn! My dad grew some this spring and gave us a bunch - it was AWESOME!
